Our knitters

Who we are

More than 200 knitters are associated with Udružene. Trained by us in our three training centres, these knitters work exclusively for Udružene. Depending on their wishes or personal circumstances, the knitters work together in community centres in their region or at home, so that they can remain present in their households. This flexibility ensures that they can strike the right balance between their professional obligations and their personal and family commitments. This organisational structure also offers great flexibility and allows us to adapt to your requirements as effectively as possible.

By becoming professional knitters, what was once seen as nothing more than a traditional activity is now recognised as a real job. As a result, the way they see themselves, as well as the way their community and family environment sees them, has changed radically for the better.

At the same time, in a country with a painful recent history, knitting brings these women significant psychological benefits. The repetitive nature of the movement, the soft and reassuring texture of the wool, the colours, the beauty of the pieces produced, the concentration required for knitting… all have a calming effect and help to push trauma far away. Knitting has been recognised for its therapeutic virtues for many years.

« J‘I was knitting before I could read… My grandmother taught me everything about knitting. It’s in my blood! I can’t sit still without knitting… Even if I don’t have any orders, I knit…’ »

« Even men are beginning to think differently and appreciate this new arrangement. The wife feels better, the husband feels better, and ultimately, the whole family benefits. »

« When I knit, my thoughts stop, and it calms me down; it’s a bit like therapy. Someone suggested I see a psychologist to talk about everything I’ve been through, but knitting has brought me back to life. »
